Terms of Use
What Assay does
Assay helps you run a single controlled test on your own skin. You change one product, keep everything else the same, take one photo a day for 28 days, and the app reports whether it could measure a change.
The measurement is a comparison of your own photos against each other. It is not a comparison against anyone else, and it is not a score.
Assay is not a medical device
Assay does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. It is not a medical device and has not been reviewed by any medical regulator.
Nothing in the app is medical advice. If something on your skin concerns you, see a doctor or a dermatologist. Do not use Assay to decide whether a symptom needs medical attention, and do not delay seeking care because of anything the app reports.
If you are using a prescription treatment, follow your prescriber, not the app.
What a verdict means, and what it does not
A verdict describes what happened over 28 days, in your lighting, on the days you took a usable photo. That is all it can describe.
A verdict of no measurable effect means the app could not detect a change larger than your own day-to-day variation over that period. It does not mean the product does nothing, and it does not mean the product will do nothing for anyone else. Many skincare ingredients are conventionally described as taking eight to twelve weeks.
A verdict of inconclusive means there were too few usable days to say anything. The app will tell you that rather than guess.
Photographs taken on a phone are affected by light, angle and distance. Assay rejects photos that fall outside its thresholds, but no amount of rejection makes a phone camera a laboratory instrument.
Subscriptions
The daily log is free and stays free. A subscription unlocks the test: the verdict, the archive of past tests, the record of what each product cost you, and data export.
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. The annual plan begins with a free trial; if you do not cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid year. Plans renew automatically until cancelled.
Cancel any time in your Apple ID subscription settings, at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling stops the next renewal. We cannot cancel or refund on your behalf, because we never handle the payment. Refunds are Apple’s to give.
Prices shown in the app come from the App Store and are the prices you will be charged.
Founding places
The first 100 accounts receive full access at no cost, permanently. The count is real: places are assigned in order from our database and the number you are shown is the number you hold.
When the 100 places are taken the offer ends, and the app will say so rather than continuing to advertise it.
